Dr. Steven St. Marie
Dr. St. Marie attended St. Michael’s College for his undergraduate training before earning his Doctorate of Optometry in 1994 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now named Salus University) in Philadelphia where he received citations of excellence in Pediatric Eye Care and Low Vision. That same year, he joined Dr. Walter Johnson and Dr. Carl Whitehouse at Optometric Associates in St. Albans, Vt. He also worked part-time at a satellite office in Rouses Point, NY for seven years.
In 2004, Dr. St. Marie acquired the practice from Dr. Whitehouse and changed its name to Northern Valley Eye Care. In 2015, Dr. St. Marie relocated the practice to its current and greatly expanded facility at 128 Fisher Pond Road.
Active in both community and professional organizations, he is the past President of the St. Albans Rotary Club and the Vermont Optometric Association.
Dr. St. Marie is married to Tami and they have two children.

Dr. Laura Werner
Dr. Laura Werner hails from New Jersey but has been living in Vermont for 6 years. Dr. Werner specializes in pediatrics and vision therapy, but sees patients of all ages. Dr. Werner specifically enjoys working with special needs populations and traumatic brain injury patients. Dr. Werner received her doctorate degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. Dr. Werner volunteers her time at the Special Olympics providing athletes with vision correction or protective eye glasses. In her spare time, Dr. Werner enjoys running half marathons, rock climbing, and skiing.




Our staff consists of a team of 10 professionals that assist our Doctors and patients everyday in all areas of our office. We have the highest number of registered certified technicians of all optometric practices in Vermont. Four members of our team have earned their credentials as Certified Paraoptometrics and throughout the year take continuing education classes to keep these credentials current. We have staff that is specialized in scheduling, insurance & billing, frames & lens styles, contact lenses, and special eye health testing to provide our patients with the best possible care and service. Two of our Certified Paraoptometric Assistants have completed additional training in fitting Synergeyes Hybrid Contact Lenses and DreamLens Vision Shaping Treatment Lenses.
